Subcision
-
Subcision is an advanced skin treatment designed to improve indented pitted acne scars and uneven skin texture. By releasing the fibrous scar tissue beneath the skin with a fine cannula, subcision allows the surface to lift and smooth naturally. This process also stimulates collagen production, leading to progressive, long-term skin improvement.
Performed under local anaesthetic by our qualified medical professional, subcision is often combined with regenerative treatments to optimise results.
Often combined in conjunction with PRP, skin needling and lasers to achieve best results for scarring.
-
Treating acne scarring from just the surface level will be never-ending. Acne scars are often tethered to deeper tissue by scar fibres. Subcision mechanically cuts these fibres, creating controlled trauma to stimulate new collagen formation, further smoothing the area over time.
What it treats best
• Rolling acne scars
• Depressed or indented/pitted scars
• Textural unevenness that does not respond well to lasers or skin needling alone
-
Minimal downtime — temporary swelling is common within first 48 hours. Chance of bruising is minimised with the use of cannula. Expect soreness, tenderness (like a deep bruise) for the following days.
Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation can occur in patients with darker skin types, who have not been pretreated with a pigment inhibitor pre procedure.
-
Gradual improvement as collagen rebuilds over 3 weeks to months.
-
Typically 3-6 treatments 2-3 months apart.
A face-to-face consultation is needed for a accurate estimate.

Pain is subject to the individual. Subcision isn't typically painful because it uses local anesthesia, however, you may feel pressure, pulling, or discomfort as the cannula breaks scar tissue.
